Heather Teague: In the next year, the majority of posts you see on social media will be AI-generated. That means the competition isn't just other small businesses, it's an ocean of machine made content. In this video, I'll show you how AI is changing social platforms and the four key steps you can take as a solo owner to stand out.


Change number one. AI isn't just powering tools like ChatGPT. It's baked into the platforms you use every day. Let's break it down, starting with AI discovery. A fancy way to say that your favorite platforms like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and even LinkedIn, are leaning heavily on AI to decide what content gets seen.


This means keywords, captions, and engagement signals are more important than ever. 

Next step, generative content. Social platforms are starting to roll out AI tools for their users. Meta has AI-generated stickers. LinkedIn suggests AI generated posts, and TikTok is experimenting with AI avatars. So expect your feed to be flooded with AI content and your posts to get lost.


What about AI search? Well, it's not just about ChatGPT. Platforms like TikTok and YouTube are becoming very popular search engines, and AI is helping to serve up the most relevant clips. People are searching inside social apps instead of Google. Of course, they're also searching in ChatGPT, but that's a whole other topic and video for another day. Stay tuned for that. 


Even the ads on social media are changing. AI isn't just grouping demographics. It's predicting behaviors and micro moments for your customers. That means small businesses can run more effective ads with smaller budgets. So what does all of this mean for you as a solo owner or marketer?


Well, if you post randomly throughout the week, you're likely to get lost. At the same time. You don't wanna blast out tons of cookie cutter content either. You need a strategy that works with AI to boost your brand and visibility. Here are four strategies to consider. First tell stories instead of pointless posts.


Anyone with a ChatGPT account can churn out endless posts, but people crave authentic voices and real stories share behind the scenes moments. Share your successes and failures, your customer stories, your journey, milestones and challenges, and always, always let your personality shine through. 


Number two. Use AI for idea generation and support.


Hey, it happens to all of us. Sometimes we hit a wall and need some ideas. Don't be afraid to use ChatGPT or your favorite AI tool to brainstorm ideas. These tools can help you come up with new content, ideas, captions, script outlines, or repurpose posts. But always add your human touch, your personality, your humor, your values.


You bring the creativity and AI helps you produce and distribute it faster than ever before. 

Number three. Adjust your posts for AI discovery. Think of your social media posts, like mini search results on Google. Take the time to select relevant keywords for your captions, your titles, your hashtags. You can even use ChatGPT to help you research the best keyword ideas for your topic or audience.


It's not new information that many people, especially Gen Z, prefer social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram for search instead of Google. We know that, but what's changing is how AI is powering that search in such a way that makes it feel like discovery, which is fun. Instead of search, which is a boring chore. Essentially, AI is blurring the line between discovery and search.


Number four. Repurpose content across platforms. If you're not using AI as a shortcut for production and distribution, you're missing out on one of the best benefits AI offers solo owners. I mean, this is where AI really shines. It makes it so much easier to transform a single idea into multiple formats.


For example, when you record a video like this, you can then take that video and post it as a YouTube short clip it for TikTok and Instagram reels, transcribe it with AI for a LinkedIn post or blog article. One effort gives multiple touchpoints, and that's how AI helps you stay visible without burning out.


So where's all of this heading? Social media will continue to be AI driven, more search focused, but feels like discovery and more competitive for the attention of our target audiences. But solo owners like you and I have an advantage. We can be nimble, personal, and authentic in ways big brands can't. AI can support this effort with tools that boost productivity and enhance our marketing efforts.
